Covering up Letters: Idea #153
A simple way to help your child sound out words is to cover up the letters in the word that they are not reading. For example if your student was reading the word: fox, first you would cover the letters o and x so that your child would only see the f and make that sound. Then you would cover just the x so that your student would make the o sound and lastly the x sound. This simplifies the word and breaks it down for your student so that they are only seeing one letter at a time. It is not as overwhelming to your student and this way they can sound out longer words. Try it out!
